Six people died in a house fire in Massena on Monday.
Firefighters from the Massena Volunteer Fire Department were called to the home at 6 Chase St. at about 10 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke and a home fully engulfed in flames, WCAX reports.
According to the Associated Press, the fire was fueled by strong winds and quickly consumed the residence. Firefighters were able to pull the victims from the house, but they subsequently died at the hospital.
Fire departments from 11 neighboring communities joined in fighting the fire, which was fanned by 40-mile-per-hour winds. Three children, Eli, Joshua, and Karmen Bowen, died in the fire along with their parents. Another adult reportedly died after being transported to the hospital.
The cause of the fire has not been released.
