BAUGHMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A 16-year-old boy died Wednesday after he fell through the ice on a pond in Wayne County, authorities say.
Lamar Good, of Marshallville, Ohio, was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m. at Akron Children’s Hospital, according to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Wayne County Sheriff Tom Ballinger tells WEWS Channel 5 that the teen and other family members were clearing snow from the surface of the pond on the 17000 block of Fulton Road so they could ice skate. The other family members left at the boy fell through the ice at about 10:30 a.m., according to a news release from the North Lawrence Fire Department.
Firefighters and the Wooster Township Fire Department Dive Team found the boy underwater, the news release says. Good was first taken to Aultman Orrville Hospital before being transferred to Akron.
The medical examiner and the sheriff’s office are investigating.
