One Dead, One Hurt in Deerfield Beach (FL) House Fire

Rafael Olmeda – South Florida Sun-Sentinel

A house fire in Deerfield Beach left one man dead and another person hospitalized early Sunday, fire-rescue officials said.

Dozens of rescue workers responded at about 2 a.m. to the 900 block of Northeast 50th Court, where they found a man dead in a bedroom, said Battalion Chief Michael B. Kane, spokesman for Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue. The man’s name was not released.

A second victim was rescued from the scene and taken to a hospital for treatment, Kane said. Officials did not disclose the survivor’s name, age or gender.

Kane said 40 firefighters responded to the emergency, and the fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes.

The American Red Cross is assisting seven additional displaced residents. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
