Providence (RI) Firefighters Battle Church Fire

Providence firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in a church Wednesday.

The fire on Elmwood Avenue was first reported when the building’s fire alarm system alerted authorities, WJAR reports.

According to Robert Jackson, Chief of Operations for the Providence Fire Department told the station 47 firefighters turned out to the scene and conducted a defensive attack using handlines and ladder trucks.

All occupants of the church evacuated safely. A part of the roof of the church collapsed during the fire.
