SAGINAW, MI — A morning fire at an apartment building on Saginaw’s Southeast Side has left one resident deceased.
Just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, Saginaw firefighters responded to an automatic alarm at Pinewood Manor, a six-story building at 2715 S. Jefferson Ave.
They arrived at 8:04 a.m. and found a working fire on the fourth floor.
Firefighters searched the apartment for occupants and found a 70-year-old woman. They removed her from the building and rushed her to a hospital, where she died.
Firefighters saved a pet dog and extinguished the flames. Fire damage was limited to one unit, though water and smoke damage extended further.
Buena Vista Township firefighters and Mobile Medical Response assisted in evacuating the building of residents.
The Saginaw Public School District provided buses to shelter residents and keep them warm while firefighters battled the blaze.
The American Red Cross is working with the Saginaw Housing Commission to help displaced residents find temporary accommodations.
The Saginaw Fire Department Fire Marshal’s office has ruled the fire’s cause accidental.
Officials did not disclose the name of the deceased resident.
