SUV Crashes into FL Firehouse; Two Firefighters Injured

A fire captain and firefighter with the Safety Harbor Fire Department were injured Friday when an SUV lost control and crashed into them while they were cleaning apparatus at the firehouse.

The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. at Safety Harbor Fire Station 53 in the 3000 block of McMullen Booth Road.

Police say the driver of the SUV lost control when the vehicle began experiencing mechanical problems and no charges are expected in the incident, ABC Action News reports.

Fire Captain Joseph Hans was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Craig suffered less-serious injuries.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Captain Hans to defray expenses associated with his injuries.
