A driver was seriously injured when a Fort Worth Fire Department engine collided with an SUV near the intersection of West Rosedale Street and South Henderson Street on Thursday morning.
Fire Department spokesman Craig Trojacek said that Engine 8 was responding to a call with its lights and sirens on at the time of the crash about 10:50 a.m. in the 1200 block of W. Rosedale.
Firefighters immediately got out of the damaged fire truck and provided emergency medical care to the driver of the SUV, the department said in a news release.
The SUV driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, and one firefighter was initially hospitalized in good condition, Trojacek said. The three other firefighters who were riding in the truck also were examined for injuries.
As of Thursday night, all the firefighters have been discharged from the hospital, while the SUV driver remains hospitalized.
“The Fort Worth Fire Department also extends our sincerest thoughts and prayers to the injured driver, their family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the department said in a statement.
The accident also damaged a power pole, causing an electrical outage in the area, and Oncor was called, Trojacek said.
The call firefighters were responding to was a commercial structure fire at Railhead Smokehouse BBQ on Montgomery Street. The fire was out when other crews arrived, and no significant damage was reported at the restaurant, Trojacek said.
Fort Worth police will investigate what caused the traffic crash, with cooperation from the Fire Department, authorities said.
