An early morning house fire in Chilton County Sunday killed two residents, according to the Clanton Police Department.

Local police and fire departments were called about 6:29 a.m. about the house fire.

“Upon arriving, it was found that a single-family residence was on fire and that 3 people were in the residence at the time of the fire. It was found that only one of the subjects was able to escape the fire,” the Clanton Police Department said on Facebook Sunday.

The resident who escaped is getting medical care and is expected to recover, the department said.

An investigation is underway into the fire, which was likely a “horrible accident,” the department said. Names of the deceased will be released after the family is notified.
