A house fire in Fayette County killed two people early Thursday morning. Fire crews arrived at the Farmington home to find it fully engulfed in flames, with fire blowing through the roof and windows.
The fire broke out in below-zero temperatures and was well-established before firefighters reached the scene. Farmington Fire Chief Brian VanSickle told CBS Pittsburgh the victims were found in the living room area.
While temperatures hindered the fire suppression, VanSickle said the failure to detect the fire until it was so large played the biggest role in the fatalities. No smoke alarms were present in the house.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but firefighters observed a number of auxiliary heating sources in the home.
