Video Shows Possible Start of the Los Angeles Eaton Fire

Newly released surveillance footage from an Altadena gas station may provide evidence in the investigation of a devastating Eaton fire that erupted on January 7.

The video shows powerful winds sweeping through the area and sparks coming from a utility pole. About 10 minutes later, flames engulf the hillside, leading to a fast-moving fire, NBC 4 reports.

The footage was shared by the gas station’s management, who said they wanted to help the community get answers.

Attorneys representing victims of the fire are now using the video to push for the preservation of physical evidence, arguing that it could play a key role in determining responsibility.

SoCal Edison, which operates power infrastructure in the area, has said in court that Pasadena also owns high-voltage lines near the fire’s point of origin.
