Baltimore City Fire Department officials are investigating a house fire that killed one person in Northeast Baltimore on Saturday night.
According to a post early Sunday on the social media platform X, Baltimore Fire crews were dispatched to the 3800 block of Ridgecroft Road in the Walterson neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. for a report of a two-story dwelling fire.
Upon arrival, crews discovered minimal smoke and extinguished the fire, the post says.
One death was reported as a result of the fire, according to the department. Both the fire and the fatality are under investigation, the post says.
Sunday morning while out walking his dog, a neighbor, Juan-Carlos Castro, pointed out which home it’d been. Directly across from Castro’s, the house did not show any signs of fire damage or forced entry by firefighters. It was the only one on the block to have a handicap-accessible ramp onto the front porch.
Castro said emergency vehicles had filled the street until after 1 a.m.
“We didn’t see the fire or know what was happening until we saw all of the emergency vehicles,” Castro said. “They stayed there from after the Ravens game until about 1 in the morning.”
Castro did not know who lived in the house but said he’s seen one to two people frequent the home.
