A UL approved fiberglass reinforced composite pipe, Permastran, developed by Johns-Manville, now serves as an auxiliary fire main that provides the fire departments with access to the water of Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The project, which specified fiberglass pipe because of its maintenance-free qualities exhibited in other projects, uses a total of 10,000 feet of 12-inch pipe.
