New York City Fire Commissioner Charles J. Hynes recently announced the appointment of Dr. Kerry J. Kelly of Staten Island as a medical officer, the first woman to hold the post in the fire department’s 116-year history. Hynes said, “With this appointment, Dr. Kerry Kelly not only brings with her an outstanding background as a fine young physician, but also the empathy and sense of belonging that come from being a member of a now fourth-generation fire department family.”
