CA Firefighter Dies from Injuries After Being Struck on Roadway

The U.S. Fire Administration issued a notice on the death of a firefighter with the Barstow (CA) Fire Protection District who succumbed to injuries he sustained last month while operating on the roadway at an accident scene.

On Sunday, December 5, 2021, Engineer David Spink, 56, responded to a vehicle collision on Interstate 15. While at the scene, he was struck by an oncoming car. He was immediately airlifted to the Loma Linda University Hospital where he remained until his passing on Sunday, January 9, 2022.

According to the Daily Press, Engineer Spink began his career in 1990 as a paid call firefighter and was hired full-time two years later. He was promoted to the rank of engineer in 1999.

Engineer Spink is survived by his wife and son, who is a Barstow firefighter/paramedic,
