Eleven people were rescued on Friday after getting stuck in an elevator in a Cambridge hi-rise.

At about 6 p.m. on Friday, the Cambridge Fire Department responded to the elevator rescue in a hi-rise on Education Circle.

It was in a blind elevator shaft, which means the elevator was not near an operating floor. The department shared photos of the rescue involving a rope system and safety equipment.

One person had to be evaluated by first responders but no other injuries were reported.

The fire department has had more than 35 elevator rescues already this year.

Another incident involved rescuing 14 people from a stalled elevator in a high-rise building on Memorial Drive.

On Feb. 25, firefighters in Somerville and Cambridge had a hands-on training and reviewed elevator rescue procedures for a blind shaft elevator. The practice was held at an AMC.

The firefighters practiced variants of rigging, rappelling, lowering and hauling, the department said.

“Never attempt to self-rescue from an elevator,” the Cambridge Fire Department warned. “Serious injury or death could result!”
