Construction Worker Killed, Another Injured in Chicago Electrical Accident

A 33-year-old worker was killed when the construction lift he was working on came into contact with powerlines. A second worker injured on the lift was rescued by firefighters.

The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 3400 block of West Ogden Avenue in the North Lawndale neighborhood.. The workers were part of a crew building an affordable housing project, WGN reports.

Cell phone footage captured the moment the lift caught fire after touching the power line, with the wheels burning as the workers remained trapped.

Power was quickly cut to the area after firefighters were called to the scene. Firefighters were able to rescue the injured worker, a 26-year-old man, who is expected to survive.
