Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Responds to Commercial Fire

Shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services (HCDFRS) units were dispatched to the 10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia to investigate an automatic fire alarm sounding.  The building is a four-story commercial building with several businesses.

First arriving units found smoke on the fourth floor of the building and fire in an exhaust duct system that appeared to have been from a fire which started on a lower level.  The original fire was controlled by an extinguishing at the source but not before it traveled into the exhaust duct system.  Crews quickly brought the incident under control and continued to investigate to ensure there was no further extension of the fire in the occupancies within the building.

Crews remain on the scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.  There have been no firefighter or civilian injuries reported.

HCDFRS and HCPD fire investigators are on scene, and they have begun their work to determine the origin and cause of the fire.  Damage estimates are not available at this time.
