Jacksonville (FL) Fire Engineer Dies After Falling Ill at Vehicle Rescue

A Jacksonville (FL) Fire and Rescue Department firefighter has passed away after experiencing a medical emergency while on scene at a motor vehicle accident, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.

On Thursday, November 11, 2021, Engineer Michael K. Freeland, 36, responded to a vehicle accident that involved an extensive and long extrication. While at the scene, Engineer Freeland experienced a medical emergency. Crews immediately performed lifesaving measures and he was transported to the UF Health at Jacksonville, where he passed away shortly thereafter.

Investigation into the cause of Engineer Michael K. Freeland’s death is ongoing.
