Fire Crews Respond to Long Island Train Accident

Thirty-three people were injured Saturday evening, October 8, when a Long Island Railroad passenger train and work train collided just west of the Merillon station in Garden City, New York.

Several cars of the 12-car train jumped the tracks, with nearly 600 passengers on board.

A Mass Casualty incident was declared at the scene which brought fire department units from around Nassau County to the staging area.

Ambulances and light trucks were special called to assist with the removal of the passengers.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo toured the site on Sunday morning with local officials and representatives of the railroad.
