MI Firefighters Pull Man from Vehicle Moments Before Train Collision

According to a report from FOX News, dramatic video has been released showing Portage, Michigan, police officers and firefighters frantically pulling a man to safety after his jeep flipped onto its side and into the path of an oncoming train on Friday, January 20.

Police and firefighters responded to reports of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Shaver Road and West Centre Avenue at around 6:20 a.m., said officials with the Portage Department of Public Safety.

Responders arrived on scene to find a Chevy Cruz in the intersection with heavy front-end damage and a Jeep rolled on its side and laying across the railroad tracks with its driver still inside, unable to move from back pain, according to officials.

While firefighters were helping the driver, a train whistle went off, and the train crossing lights began to flash.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to an area hospital for treatment; there has been no update on his condition. The driver of the Chevy Cruz was unharmed.

Portage Police said the cause of the accident is now under investigation.
