NFPA preparing new documents on technical rescue and preincident planning
The Committee on Technical Rescue is planning a new document, proposed NFPA 1670, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents. The incorporation of the existing NFPA 1470, Standard on Search and Rescue Training for Structural Collapse Incidents, into the proposed new document is being contemplated. In addition to structure rescue, the new document will cover rope rescue and rescues involving confined spaces, transportation and machinery, water, wilderness, trenches, and excavation collapse. The proposed NFPA 1670 has been entered into the Fall 1998 cycle with a proposal closing date of July 18, 1997.
The Committee on Pre-Incident Planning is writing a new document, proposed NFPA 1620, Recommended Practice for Pre-Incident Planning. It will now cover all occupancies and be more user-friendly, according to the NFPA. The proposed NFPA 1620 has been entered into the Annual 1998 cycle. The proposed closing date for this document has passed, but the Annual 1998 Report on Proposals will be available from the NFPA on August 1, 1997.
