At 5:29 a.m. on November 29, the Southampton (NY) Fire Department was called to the report of a motor vehicle accident on CR 39 just west of Hill Station Road.

An SUV and a small sedan collided, causing one to be impacted in the guard rail. The drivers of both cars had to be extricated. A Suffolk County Medevac was called for the driver of the sedan. The others were taken to Southampton hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries by Southampton town and village ambulances.

The westbound lanes were closed while one eastbound lane was kept open during the entire call. While at the scene, a tractor trailer that was in traffic eastbound on Sunrise Highway had a mechanical issue that caused a tire to blow out and ignited its brakes. Additional firefighters were called to put out the smoldering brakes. Crews were on scene for 2 1/2 hours. As of 8:15, all lanes of CR 39 were open. Chief Dennis Roy was in charge of the scene.
