Ocean City (NJ) Firefighters Rescue Multiple People from Fire

Firefighters rescued multiple people trapped at a house fire Sunday down the Jersey Shore.

According to CBS News, smoke alarms began to sound around 1:40 a.m. Sunday at a duplex near the Ocean City boardwalk.

Ocean City fire officials told CBS reporters that there was a fire on the first floor and those inside the rental property were not able to escape from the second and third floors.

Five people were reportedly trapped on the third floor deck, and firefighters used 35-foot ladders to rescue four of them. Another victim was not able to descend using the ladder, so firefighters waited with her until crews were able to put the fire out and she could leave down the steps.

The report said five people suffered minor injuries and were briefly hospitalized, and a firefighter also received stitches after being cut on broken glass.
