An Amtrak train with 120 passengers and crew aboard smashed into a tractor-trailer in western Gaston County early Tuesday, emergency officials said.
No one was injured in the collision near Long Creek Road, outside Bessemer City, according to Gaston County Emergency Management and Fire Services.
The train was headed from New Orleans to New York, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported.,
“This is an ongoing incident so please avoid the area of Hwy 161 at Long Creek Rd,” emergency officials said on social media around 7 a.m.
Gaston EMS assisted the Tryonota Fire Department at the scene.
Also responding were the Bessemer City, Kings Mountain, Gastonia and Crowders Mountain fire departments, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Gaston EMS and the Gaston County Police Department.
