Mar. 5—Two died after a car collided with a garbage truck, resulting in both vehicle catching on fire this morning in North Las Vegas, according to a police news release.

Officers were responding to reports of a collision in the 3900 block of Cheyenne Avenue shortly before 10:15 a.m., where both vehicles were already on fire, the release stated.

The collision occurred when an Infiniti sedan lost control while traveling on Cheyenne, crossing over the center median, where it crashed into the garbage truck head-on, causing both to catch fire, the release stated.

Arriving officers notified the North Las Vegas Fire Department about the fires. Once extinguished, two occupants inside the Infiniti were found and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the garbage truck was evaluated by medical personnel and did not appear to have any serious injuries.

Traffic investigators believe speed was a factor in the collision. Impairment will be determined at a later time by the Coroner’s Office.
