One Dead, Four Injured in Belvidere (IL) House Fire that Completely Destroyed Home

Jun. 19—BELVIDERE — One person was killed and four others, including two firefighters, were injured during a house fire early Friday in the 100 block of West Second Street.

Crews responded at about 2 a.m. to a two-story home that was engulfed in flames.

Two people were rescued by firefighters. A third individual got out of the burning home before .

All three residents were transported to area hospitals. The name of the deceased individual has not been released. The status of the other two people who were injured is unknown.

The two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Three dogs also died in the fire.

The home had no working smoke detectors, according to the Belvidere Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the home is a total loss.

Damages were estimated at $135,000.

The fire was controlled within 15 minutes, and emergency responders remained on scene for several hours.
