WA Assistant Chief Dies from Burns Sustained in Wildfire

Christian Dean Johnson, assistant chief with Okanogan County (WA) Fire District 3, died Wednesday from severe burns he received while working at a forest fire in September.

KOMO reported that Johnson died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he had been in intensive care since the incident in September.

Johnson was in a brush truck with another firefighter on the north end of the fire when flames overtook them. The other firefighter reportedly outran the fire, but returned and treated Johnson as much as possible, and called for help.
